Growing up watching various TV shows there were always places we wished we could explore for ourselves. We got to explore the Rugrats household in Search for Reptar (What a Game). As we got older we got to explore and brawl in the backstage area of WWE in the likes of SmackDown and then as we got older still, South Park eventually gave us the Stick of Truth and the Fracture But Whole so we could explore their quiet, little, redneck, mountain town. But there was one constant that when sat in front of the TV regardless of age we always wished we could explore. That of course was the town of Springfield in the Simpsons.

Hot of the heels of Simpsons: Road Rage, a crazy taxi style game set in the town on Springfield, the next game to feature our yellow bellied friends was Simpsons: Hit and Run. While Road Rage allowed some exploration of Springfield, players were restricted due to the time constraints of the arcade mode. With Hit and Run, that was not an issue. I remember when I first discovered this game hearing many of my friends say "Its basically Grand Theft Auto but with the Simpsons". From that moment I was sold.

Exploring the different levels as the Simpson family and Apu the player can take their time exploring the seven levels in the game and the sites that that Springfield had to offer, all while finding secret cars and hidden objects. During the free roaming game play a hit and Run meter, not unlike the wanted meter in GTA, was filled by running over people and destroying objects and would attract the attention of the police for some high octane chases through the streets of Springfield.

Visiting famous locations like the Kwik-E-Mart, exploring the neighbourhood of Evergreen Terrance, getting detention with Bart in Springfield Elementary, this game was truly better than it had any right to be and the exploration aspect of Springfield was a big reason behind that.
