10 Best Video Games Of January 2022 (According To Critics)

6. Expeditions: Rome (PC)

The third entry in the Expeditions franchise, Expeditions: Rome has proven to be a hit among tactical role playing fans everywhere. The game sees you taking on the role of a member of the Roman military investigating the death of his father across the vast, sweeping Roman empire.

You can create your own legatus character with gender, class and customization options as well as an extensive skill system and lots of loot. The historically inspired narrative unfolds across a varied set of environments including Greece, North Africa and of course, Rome itself.

Your choices and consequences will matter here too, with dialogue options and decisions ultimately influencing the outcomes of the sprawling story. The plot is most certainly the highlight of this one but the combat slightly lets the game down with some of the battles feeling slightly clumsy in some instances.

Many people praised the companions that accompany you on this journey and the way in which Expeditions: Rome introduces their unique backstories and personalities. This has led to a Metacritic score of 81 on PC despite a slightly lower user score of 7.2. If you're a fan of tactical role playing games with a historical spin, this is one to look out for.
