10 Best Video Games Set In England
3. Assassin's Creed Syndicate
By the time 2015 rolled around, Assassin's Creed had developed a bit of an unwelcome 'hit and miss' reputation.
Revelations had been a lukewarm conclusion to the Altair/Ezio series, AC3 was a tonal and technical mess and all the good points of Black Flag had been undone with Unity's many controversies. For their next game, Ubisoft decided to build things around Victorian London during the height of imperialism and the industrial revolution.
Given its historical significance, Victorian London was always touted as a possible setting for an Assassin's Creed game, but just how well it slotted into the series must have taken even the most optimistic fan by surprise.
The social issues of labour rights and themes around empire and imperialism at the time were perfect for building an Assassin/Templar conflict around, and helped breed some of the most colourful characters the series has ever produced.
On top of the noticeable improvement in character design, Assassin's Creed: Syndicate also features a world that feels far more alive than many of its predecessors.
Missions felt far more creative due to the range of new features around the world, the visuals saw a noticeable improvement from what had come before and the London setting definitely played a part in bringing things towards a much nicer tone to play through.
