The Nintendo Wii had a particular demographic in mind regarding its target audience, becoming infamous for pumping out colourful and easy-to-grasp party games rather than the triple-A spectacles on other consoles.

That is what makes Sadness still one of the most exciting games that could have joined the Wii's library, had it ever been released.

The game was announced in March 2006 by developers Nibris, and instantly stood out with its black-and-white graphics, emphasis on psychological horror rather than violence and gore, as well as its unique pre-WW1 Russia setting.

However, what followed was four years of development albeit without anything Nibris were able to show for themselves. The team were always on hand to claim more was coming - different endings and an interactive environment being the main two, but there were never any trailers, teasers or demos ever released for players to experience for themselves.

Accusations of vaporware began to be labelled at the project on the regular, though Nibris were always quick to claim it was artistic differences and a failure to meet deadlines were what was causing the game's delay. By February 2010, the project had effectively been terminated, closing one of the most interesting chapters in the Wii library's history.

Horror fan, gamer, all round subpar content creator. Strongly believes that Toad is the real hero of the Mario universe, and that we've probably had enough Batman origin stories.
