6. Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed may not be able to measure up to some of the truly ridiculously over-exposed franchises on this list, but it's made a pretty fantastic effort considering the series has been around for just 7 years, but has churned out a whopping 6 main games in that time, along with almost a dozen spin-offs as well. Though the series switching protagonists often certainly helps keep things fresh, along with a wildly-changing setting, would it kill Ubisoft to take their time a little more and leave us in anticipation? To see Assassin's Creed III and IV released within a year of each other just seems a tad ridiculous by most other franchise standards: could you imagine if Rockstar tried to do this with GTA? In Ubisoft's defense, though, the main titles are generally going from strength to strength, so perhaps it's best to calm it down with the handheld and mobile phone games for now? Otherwise, it seems like we can't escape this series' grasp even when we're out of the house...
