10 Biggest Gaming Franchises With So Many Entries It's Just Offensive

4. Final Fantasy

As you are probably aware, there are "only" 14 main Final Fantasy games released to date, which over the span of 27 years doesn't actually seem that bad at all. Square Enix have clearly demonstrated some restraint over the years and ensured that they only made a new game when they actually had something worth contributing. Except that just isn't true. There are more Final Fantasy spin-offs than you can shake a stick at, some of the more famous ones being the all-girl Final Fantasy X-2, the terrible Vincent-based action game Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, what was essentially a reboot of the original failed Final Fantasy XIV online game. Thankfully, there are a lot of decent spin-off titles, like the PSP's Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, the Final Fantasy Tactics series, and Nintendo's Crystal Chronicles franchise. Still, it's all too much of a muchness, with the series totaling almost 50 games including spin-offs, and that's not even counting the various anthologies and collections that have come along the way. Are Square's profits from the main series titles really not enough? Sadly, the fanbase consistently fails to vote with their wallets, which might've prevented Square Enix from pressing on with two expansions to my least favourite game in the series, Final Fantasy XIII. I am crossing my fingers for Final Fantasy XV, to say the least.
