6. Crowdfunded Gaming

Kickstarter began as a great way for people to get their small enterprises off the ground, but how many of us expected it to bring about crowd-funded
video games? Tim Schafer's Double Fine started it all, amassing $3.33 million all in all, an immense testament to both the power of the Internet and the savvy of the average gamer to put their money where their mouth is when a promising project abounds. In light of Schafer's success, video game Kickstarter projects began to appear left, right and center, and though many of them lack the same promise that Schafer's has, at least this is a step in the right direction for democratising the video game medium and ensuring that the content we want floods the market rather then crass reboots and annualised franchises. We can only expect that this will become even more popular next year, and we can't wait to get our hands on Double Fine at the end of 2013.
