10 Biggest Gaming Myths About The Apocalypse

4. The Crushing Loneliness (And Boredom)

Games are good to their players, they give nice narrative arcs and plenty of side quests to keep you active in this modern, everything-has-died-because-of-the-cataclysm world. Hell in the last few Fallout games they even gave you friends to walk around with who could take the brunt of the damage so you didn't have to. There€™s barely a moment in games where you can just sit down and gather your thoughts on what that mutant meant by €œI€™m going to wear your skull as a trophy.€ Humans are creatures wrought with existential doubt and prone to live for social interaction. Our game apocalypses recognise this, and so, they have become densely populated dystopias with rich characters from all walks of life, doing what they can, whilst you murder and thrive almost consequence free. In the real world apocalypse, assuming you survived by some miracle and emerge once the dust has settled, chances are you'll be entirely alone.
