For many Tim Schafer fans, Grim Fandango is his magnum opus. It is a title of genuine and unmistakable quality and it set a benchmark in the adventure genre that has yet to be topped.

Fans have been clamouring for a sequel for more than a decade and a half, with many hoping that Schafer could move away from the projects that he is currently focusing on to instead work on continuing the adventures of Manny Cavalera and company instead. After all, in an era where Telltale Games have shown that the the genre still has plenty to offer, there has probably never been a better time to bring the title back.

Still, when E3 2014 rolled around nobody was expecting any news about Grim Fandango. Fans had long since given up hope for a sequel and it appeared that Schafer's time was dedicated elsewhere.

During Sony's conference suspicions were aroused when a letter appeared on screen from a "12" year old girl asking if Sony's consoles could work miracles. When Tim Schafer's face appears next to the letter and the announcement that Grim Fandango was to be remastered for the PS4 and Vita was made, the excitement generated was palpable.

Better yet, fans of the series now have renewed hope that a sequel may one day enter the works.
