10 Board Games That Would Make For Great Video Games

7. Starship Samurai

Starship Samurai does something unique. The theme of feudal Japanese clans vying for control is nothing new, and good old fashioned sci-fi strategy keeps chugging along with new games released every year. Marry the two, however, and things get interesting. Add giant space mechs and things get epic.

As a Total War-style game Starship Samurai would already be intriguing enough a prospect: the Shogun: Total War games are, after all, seen as some of the genre’s best. But allow players to enter Creative Assembly’s signature expansive battles in first person, piloting their very own samurai mech against hundreds, even thousands of units, and you’ve given the venerable RTS genre a massive Strike-Suit-Zero-esque adrenaline shot to the heart.

And it is here where Starship Samurai can kick things up to eleven. Combat between mechs, both in open battle and in ritualised duels of honour, could take the form of a fully-fleshed fighting mini-game, though mini-game is a bit of a misnomer for a feature that would border on being a full stand-alone brawler. With ten mechs to choose from this would be an entire game unto itself.

It may only be a cherry on top of an already delicious cake, but integrating a robust fighter into an already expansive RTS, would be a value-packed revolution in the genre that could, and should, see many franchises following suit.
