10 Broken Games That Are GOD-TIER Now
1. Final Fantasy XIV
All of the previous entries pale in comparison to the utter disaster that was FFXIV when it first launched. A bomb so complete and overwhelming that the president of Square Enix admitted to it having done great damage to the brand. The worst major MMORPG on the market by some considerable distance.
So how did we get to today, where not only is FFXIV still going, but running rings around whatever MMOs are still standing over a decade later? Well, simply put, they burned the whole god-forsaken thing to the ground.
When the current director, Naoki Yoshida, took over, his first edict was to reboot the entire thing. FFXIV 1.0 just had too many fires to put out as is, so the better plan was to just start from scratch. And so 1.0 died in a glorious CGI cutscene fire, and what came after was 2.0 - better known as A Realm Reborn.
A Realm Reborn relaunched the entire thing with a new UI, a brand-new storyline, and completely overhauled combat. From there, FFXIV has only built on itself, until it has become the epic, fast-paced action MMORPG it is today. Final Fantasy XIV Online is now the most profitable game in the franchise - and if we're being honest - probably the only thing really keeping the lights on at Square Enix these days.
