10 Broken Video Games That Were Fixed YEARS Later

The original version of Square Enix's MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV was released in 2010 to immediately negative reviews from the press and players alike, who criticised basically every aspect of its gameplay as incomplete and in some cases even broken.

Square Enix responded by hastily suspending subscriber fees and replacing key creative personnel, before the game was shut down in November 2012, barely two years after it was released.

But in August 2013, almost three years after its disastrous initial launch, Final Fantasy XIV was resurrected as "A Realm Reborn," a Version 2.0 of the original game which vastly improved most everything about it.

This fixed version went on to enjoy critical and commercial success, with over 22 million registered players counted earlier this year, as well as getting a shiny new release for PS5.

While it's nothing short of embarrassing how not-ready-for-market the original FFXIV was, Square Enix does deserve some measure of credit for not just abandoning the project and actually getting it right the second time.
