7. Eight Days (PS3) (2005)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDOZvKWXDP4 Originally revealed as a tech demo during the initial phase of Sony's PS3 PR tour, Eight days shaped up into what appeared to be a third person action shooter. Featuring car chases, slo-mo shoot-outs and more mobster shooting than all Scorscese movies combined. The trailer elected some complaints from the gaming media, with some journalists claiming the trailer wasn't representative of gameplay and was in fact a CGI mock-up'. Sony had recently displayed the Killzone 2 announcement trailer which garnered similar controversy. At the time, I too doubted the trailers authenticity. However, if you compare the footage above to any playable sequence from the immensely popular Uncharted franchise, you'll notice that such a game is entirely possible. You could argue that the in-game graphics of Naughty Dogs' upcoming Last Of Us looks better than the above trailer. That's the difference eight years can make. In 2009 Sony finally broke the silence surrounding the game and suggested it wasn't in fact cancelled, only 'On Hold'. PS4 launch title, maybe?
