6. Gotham By Gaslight (2005)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65IsSRMi4i0 F3ER developer Day1 Studios once had a unique idea for a new Batman game. Set in the 19th century, Gotham by Gaslight featured the Caped Crusader on the hunt for infamous Victorian serial killer, Jack the Ripper. The game would take players from the streets of a Victorian era London to a steampunk Gotham City in search of the killer. What makes this cancellation somewhat hard to bare is the realization that there is no other game like this. Video games set in 19th century Britain are hard to come by, those featuring Batman even rarer. Based on a popular 1989 One-Shot comic of the same name, Gotham By Gaslight intended to return Batman to his roots Literally. Players would incorporate a mix of detective skills, open world exploration, stealth and combat. If any of this sounds familiar; Rocksteady's heavily praised Arkham games feature similar gameplay traits. The one thing Batman fans can take away from this is knowledge that while they may never see Batman doing battle with Jack the Ripper, at least the Arkham Asylum/City games absolutely kick-ass.
