10 Cancelled Video Games You Won't Believe Were In Development

2. Fez 2

Fez was a bit of a surprise, really - nobody expected a game about the Pilsbury doughboy’s Moroccan cousin to set the world on fire, but then again, nobody expected the actual world to literally catch on fire.

Fez features a world-bending protagonist who exists in 2D, but can rotate the world around him to reveal four different planes of a 3D world. Which is cool, and all, but I can eat a whole hot dog in seven seconds. I’ll let you decide which is more impressive.

Phil Fish, one of the game’s developers, has been something of a turbulent presence in the industry, having appeared in Indie Game: The Movie, and subsequently having an ongoing spat with several journalists who called him out on his bad behaviour in communicating with both his colleagues and the general public.

We can only presume that Fez 2 would’ve featured more... fezzing, perhaps even having the protagonist wearing two fezzes simultaneously (mind... blown). But sadly, it wasn’t to be - Fish was so incensed during his ongoing feuds that he ceremoniously and dramatically cancelled the game, telling the journalist Marcus Beer to “compare your life to mine, then kill yourself”, followed shortly by “I’m done. Fez 2 is cancelled. Goodbye”.

After this, Fish locked his Twitter account, and has since remained elusive.
