9. Kiefer Sutherland - Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Many eyebrows were raised when Hideo Kojima decided to recast the role of "Big Boss" aka Venom Snake in Metal Gear Solid V, ditching long-tenured voice actor David Hayter for Hollywood talent Kiefer Sutherland.
While Sutherland certainly did a solid job with the material given, his ultra-distinctive voice, which is so prominently associated with 24 protagonist Jack Bauer, ultimately proved distracting to a fault.
Sutherland's voice constantly draws attention to itself, enough that Kojima probably would've been better off hiring a somewhat lesser-known acting talent with a less-recognisable tenor if he was hell-bent on not rehiring Hayter.
Admittedly, Kojima's decision to recast the role was always going to rub some fans the wrong way, even accepting the eventual twist that Venom Snake is actually a Big Boss doppelganger.
Yet having the character be voiced only intermittently, and for that voice to be one of Hollywood's most familiar, really didn't do Venom Snake any favours at all.
