10 Clone Video Games That Are Better Than The Original
7. Nioh (Dark Souls 3)
The success of the Dark Souls series has led to the creation of numerous soul-like clones that try to replicate the games' formula with varied results.
Out of all these clones, the most successful has to be Nioh. Not because it managed to outdo the popularity of FromSoftware Soulslikes, but because it proved unique enough to gain the approval of even the most diehard Dark Souls fans.
Nioh, a Soulslike set in a fantasy version of feudal Japan, managed to set itself apart from the giants of the genre thanks to its increased difficulty level and complexity. The game isn't easy to get into right away, but that is exactly why veterans of Dark Souls would recommend it to you.
The game is basically the next step for those still craving a challenge after making it through the FromSoftware titles (because some people are simply gluttons for punishment).
Even after the release of Sekiro, Nioh's spike in difficulty helps it set itself apart from other titles in the genre. Well, that and the noticeable lack of a gritty steampunk setting and doll protagonists (looking at you, Steelrising and Lies of P).
