6. Vermintide 2 (Left 4 Dead)
The curious thing about Left 4 Dead games is that they managed to create a brand new, brilliant genre that, for some unknown reason, only a handful of titles have bothered to copy ever since their release. One of these exceptions is the Warhammer: Vermintide series.
In terms of their gameplay and premise, Vermintide games are just Left 4 Dead set in the dark fantasy world of Warhammer. And yet, this small distinction allows Vermintide to spread its wings wider than its inspiration.
The fantasy aspect of Vermintide expands the formula of Left 4 Dead with things like character classes, medieval weaponry, and magic that enriches the gameplay in a pretty significant way.
The core fun of killing hordes of enemies is still there, but you get more weapons and skills to play with, as well as a leveling system with branching paths that make the gameplay more complex and interesting.
Also, instead of zombies, you get gory giant rats with funny voices. That ought to be enough of an improvement as is, but it's nice of the developers to include the other new features as well.
