10 Completely Shameless Video Game Rip-Offs

4. Tomb Raider (2013) - Uncharted

Rebooting Tomb Raider was a stroke of genius, but the result wasn't exactly what we expected. Instead of the quick-witted, super archaeologist we'd all been accustomed to; we received a prequel of sorts that showed how Lara Croft changed from vulnerable whiner into semi-capable explorer.

The open-world approach borrowed heavily from several video games that had already graced the Xbox 360/PS3, but it isn't this stylistic decision that leads me to include Tomb Raider on this list. Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics included very similar climbing animations, scripted set-pieces and cover shooting sections that mimicked the Uncharted series, whilst only offering minor tweaks.

Such formulae definitely helped with high sales and widespread appeal, but it doesn't make these ideas any less generic.
