10 Crowdfunded Video Games That Never Saw The Light Of Day
7. Night Trap ReVamped
Goal: $330,000
– Raised: $39,843
In the age of nostalgia, one would assume an HD remake of Night Trap – the classic interactive movie released for SEGA-CD in 1992 – would have been an instant success, easily surpassing any funding ambitions in a relatively short amount of time.
Somehow, the team behind the project managed to confuse the simplest concept imaginable, hindering their own campaign with a plethora of imprecise objectives and vague promises.
For one thing, the company promised to distribute physical copies of the game in cardboard sleeves, a promise they later admitted was unrealistic, and downright impractical. They also understated the importance of digital downloads, emphasising instead physicals disks, which a great many consumers are averse to purchasing (myself included).
Perhaps as a direct result, Night Trap ReVamped was a colossal failure, successful squandering an otherwise lucrative prospect, an opportunity to capitalise on some serious nostalgia.
