The Gamecube era introduced a number of beloved classics to Nintendo fans and even was the birthplace to a number of successful franchises that are still going strong today. Unfortunately, this does not include cult classic third-person horror game Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem, which released on the console in 2002.

The psychological horror adventure title was praised for its engaging storyline and featured a patented sanity meter that if not managed successfully would result in the environment changing to give the effect of the player characters slipping grip on reality. While this mechanic, or at least some version of it, has appeared in a number of horror games since it has arguably yet to be implemented as well as Eternal Darkness.

With the success of Nintendo’s latest console, the Nintendo Switch, as well as the company’s proclivity to re-release older games on their hybrid console, fans have been hoping for them to pay Eternal Darkness some attention.

The game remains a cult classic and, due to the lack of sales of Gamecube, releasing a remake or remastered version could help introduce the title to a new audience and perhaps give fans the sequel that they were hoping for after all these years.
