10 Disappointing Video Games That Never Lived Up To The Hype

1. Cyberpunk 2077

Even today, the mystery of how a catastrophe of this size was even able to occur is still up for debate, as the launch and promotion of 2020's Cyberpunk 2077 was nothing short of shambolic. Throughout 2020 it was near impossible to go on social media or see a bus or billboard that didn't have an ad for Cyberpunk 2077 on the side of it.

The game was initially announced way back in 2012, with the first trailers shown off in 2013 before a slew of delays saw it being released in late 2020.

After receiving numerous awards at E3, launch was disastrous, with performance so bad on consoles, many players sought refunds. Unable to obtain them, things went from bad to worse as Sony pulled Cyberpunk from the PlayStation Store altogether.

Cyberpunk 2077 then didn't return to the Playstation until Summer 2021, with both Xbox and PlayStation stores placing warnings on the game. Gamestop accepted returns of the game even if the box was opened, and offered full refunds due to such obvious and abundant quality issues.

In the coming months, the chaos got worse, as CDPR were accused of deliberately not providing reviewers with the console versions of the game, as they knew it would be slated. Another accusation came from investors, suing developers CD Projekt RED over how misled they also felt.

All of this led to CDPR losing 75% of their share value, reducing the company to a quarter of its worth before Cyberpunk 2077.
