10 DISASTROUS Attempts At Forcing Game Franchises To Continue

3. GoldenEye: Rogue Agent

After 25 years, GoldenEye 007 is still considered one of the most revolutionary first-person shooters of all time.

For that reason, it was really ballsy (and arguably stupid) for EA to think they could devise a followup that matches its predecessor. But since James Bond's name is an automatic moneymaker, they got to work on a new instalment called GoldenEye: Rogue Agent.

But Rogue Agent wasn't just bad; it was insultingly misleading.

Firstly, it's not an adaptation of the film of the same name. Although it borrows a handful of elements from its movie counterpart, Rogue Agent has more connections to Dr. No and Goldfinger. So, if players purchased this game, expecting to play a remake or a direct sequel to GoldenEye 007, they were left deeply confused and justifiably disappointed.

But that's not the worst part. This may be hard to believe but... James Bond isn't in the game. Instead, the player takes control an anonymous 00 agent with an artificial golden eye. (Yes, really.)

If gameplay was up to standard (which it isn't), Rogue Agent would still be vilified, as it deliberately deceived its loyal fanbase.
