10 Dumbest Ways We've All Died In Video Games

1. Being Ran Over By The Ambulance That Would've Saved You - GTA

My favourite dumb way to die, though, without a doubt, is what I like to refer to as the “Ambulance of Irony”.

Usually seen in the Grand Theft Auto series (but frequently pops up in other open-world games, such as Saints Row), this is when an ambulance (or any type of medical vehicle) arrives on scene in order to save someone who has just been injured, only to cause an even worse accident.

One of my favourite incidents occurred in GTA 4, where Niko Bellic (me) decided to start a little fistfight with a mouthy pedestrian who was being more boorish than Newcastle and Sunderland fans having a “discussion” in Wetherspoons pre-match.

After winning the scrap, an ambulance appeared to collect our poor victim, but knocked over his friend instead. This made him aggressive, and he in turn had a big scrap with the ambulance drivers, who got knocked out.

Another ambulance arrived and crashed into the first ambulance, killing both the assailant and me/Niko (well, I couldn’t just... leave, could I? This was nearly a third as explosively violent as a Tuesday in Eastenders).

There’s something extremely chaotic about knowing the ambulance crew has a 50/50 chance of either saving someone’s life, or causing additional casualties.

For me, it’s hands-down the most dumb way to die in a video game.
