10 E3 Moments That Became Internet Memes
6. E3 Nintendo 2008 - Wii Music Drum Solo
When you're making software for the masses (as your console has already shipped 24 million) just over two years after launch and rhythm/music games are massively popular, E3 is a great place to show a first-party music title. Part of this was Shigeru Miyamoto's pet project Wii Music. It was meant to be Nintendo's attempt at offering the next Wii Sports or Wii Fit - a title with near-universal appeal that would sell tens of millions. It managed 2.65 million by the end of March 2009.
The demo of Wii Music featured a "drum solo" - if you can call it that - with one Wii Remote, a nunchuk and the Wii Balance Board. Despite the fact drummer DJ Ravi almost choked himself with the too-short cord between the controllers, at around the 30 second mark the controllers can't keep up with the pace he goes at.
It just didn't look good, didn't sound good... it just plain wasn't good.
