10 Embarrassing Video Games Nobody Can Ever Catch You Playing
7. Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy X is widely considered to be one of the golden era Final Fantasies, with some still proclaiming it the last of that era (FFXV having divided longtime fans). It had a brave and engaging story, intimate characters and the classic turn-based mechanics and mini-games so adored by audiences.
So Square decided to do something unprecedented with Final Fantasy X; they made a direct sequel.
It's hard to deny the figures. FFX-2 sold well, and continues to do so now that it's been remastered and packaged with the original on PS3 and PS4. Yet the tonal shift was enough to alienate a huge number of fans. Leaving behind the melancholic tone of the original, FFX-2 opens with former summoner and reserved hero, Yuna, throwing down her staff and picking up a microphone.
The hugely popular Blitzball instead become a stage for a Charlie's Angels musical. What follows is a bizarre mix of costume-themed battles, dress-up missions, suggestive massages and cartoony bad guys. The overall plot does actually have some great moments true to the original, but is mired by cheesy games, cringeworthy pop culture, and the most irritating Brother in existence.
