4. Grabbing The Flashlight - Half Life: Alyx

While some people might not class the Half Life series as falling into the horror genre, there is no doubt that the VR masterpiece that is Half Life: Alyx is most definitely worthy of this classification thanks to its intense and visceral jump scares and ominous atmosphere.

This can be best summed up with the moment that Alyx finds need of a flashlight when exploring some dark and foreboding underground sections. Traversing through these sections without ample light is enough to set the heart racing, and there's a genuine sense of relief when you stumble across a flashlight hanging from a corpse. However nothing in this game comes for free, and as you step back and take a closer look at the mutilated body, you suddenly begin to hear the skittering of limbs along the floor.

Turning around and witnessing a mass of headcrabs swarming the area may well cause you to drop your gun, even more so when the headcrabs launch themselves at you from the abyss. It's one of the most effective and horrifying VR moments ever; simply crafted but brilliantly executed.
