8. Marrying The 1000-Year-Old Child - Fire Emblem Awakening

Resident Evil 4 Ashley
Intelligent Systems

Fire Emblem Awakening features a bevy of romantic options, namely the ability to marry and have children with a multitude of characters.

This includes Nowi, who despite technically being over 1,000 years old and part-dragon has the cherubic appearance and carefree personality of a young child.

Again, Nowi has the numerical age of an adult yet otherwise adheres to all the common tropes of a "loli" character in Japanese media - that is, a young, often underage woman who is heavily sexualised.

Nowi's age feels like an hilariously transparent attempt to deflect criticism from the fact that, again, the game effectively lets you marry and have sex with someone who, for all intents and purposes, has the looks and mind of a child. Ewww.

Why not just design Nowi to look and talk like an adult? It's a truly bizarre design choice that only makes this otherwise terrific RPG a magnet for creepers.

To call the innuendo-laden proposal scene "uncomfortable" is quite an understatement indeed.
