Obsidian Entertainment have been a very busy studio in recent times. Between the honey I shrunk the kids-esque survival game Grounded, The Outer worlds 2 and Avowed, the acclaimed RPG studio certainly has a lot on their plate.
Avowed is a first person, fantasy role playing game set within the Pillars of Eternity universe. With a short cinematic announcement trailer showcasing magic and melee combat, Skyrim comparisons were inevitable. The game is rumored to include some innovative features however, which include a dynamic weather system, reactive world environment and advanced character creation.
Duel wielding is said to be a key focus for combat, with the ability to enchant weapons and arrows with an array of elemental effects. Picture applying flames to your sword or enhancing your crossbow bolts with ice. This is even hinted at in the cinematic reveal trailer in which the character imbues their weapon with some kind of magic aura.
The world of Avowed will also be home to multiple factions and races, with some of them sure to be pulled directly from the Pillars of Eternity lore. This one has been quiet since its announcement in 2020 so I would expect to see some gameplay and perhaps a release date this year.
