10 Extremely Expensive Upcoming Video Games (That Have Already Flopped)

2. Crackdown 3

STAR Citizen
Microsoft Studios

Shown off as an early representation of great Xbox exclusives to come, Crackdown 3 is (apparently) finally releasing this February after being announced over four years ago. It's been a rather troublesome development period for Crackdown 3 as it's gone through several gameplay reworkings and even a developer swap late in the process.

However, what likely forced Crackdown 3 through so many stumbling blocks was the Cloud engine components that would allow the game to fulfill its promise of having a fully-destructible multiplayer map. It's what got non-fans of the series immediately interested back when it was announced and likely is the reason some still are. That said, it is no guarantee there's much of a stable player base ready to dedicate themselves to the title, particularly with games like Anthem and Metro Exodus competing against it for that February 22nd crown.

Whether it flops depends on two things: how engaging is the moment-to-moment gameplay? And does the multiplayer live up to the hype? What Microsoft have shown off so far doesn't promise much, and after such a chaotic development cycle, can the final product be anything but a mess?

Gamers will have to see come February.
