10 Fan-Made Video Game Remakes That Were Better Than The Original
6. Black Mesa
You don't need to be well-versed in video game culture to know that people are absolutely crazy about Half-Life, and so when Valve decided to remake Half-Life using an updated game engine, fans were pretty damned excited. Upon the release of Half-Life: Source however, the reception was pretty negative, leading the sizeable fanbase to take it upon themselves to do a better job. With the surprising support from Valve, fans started up their own remake project using an updated Source game engine titled Black Mesa. The final results that followed are a testament to how devoted (and crazy) the Half-Life fanbase can be. After the game was announced in 2005, fans toiled away for seven years (and still counting) to craft the perfect remake, and the results were nothing short of astounding. With a superb graphics and physics overhaul, a polish of the original's gameplay, and the implementation of more content such as additional dialogue, choreography, music, and voice acting, Black Mesa is considered by most to be on par with something Valve would create. That's some pretty high praise for a fan project.
My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem.
Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh.
