On the subject of classy voice actors, no mention of Bioshock's Andrew Ryan would be complete without heaping praise on Armin Shimerman.

This wealthy businessman grew up in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution and lived through the Great Depression in the 1930s, leading to a lifelong ambition to create a heavenly society away from the meddling of politics and governance. No doubt that dream is an idea certain players have felt themselves, feeling sympathetic for Ryan from time to time.

Using his own wealth and resources, he builds Rapture from scratch and never fully loses sight of the idealism behind his dream.

Nevertheless, increasing paranoia and the brutal means in which he runs the city gives Ryan a mad scientist vibe. With that said, it's hard to see Andrew Ryan as anything other than a wannabe fallen hero corrupted by the issues around him, having never been fuelled by greed or any grandiose plans of domination like other video game villains.

Not only did Andrew Ryan deserve a better shot at making his dreams a better reality, but he definitely deserved a better send-off than begging his own son to clobber his head in with a golf club.
