10 Forgotten Nintendo 64 Gems You Need To Play In 2022
6. Blast Corps (1997)
Blast Corps tends to be forgotten among all of the other Rare-developed Nintendo 64 titles: while games like Banjo Kazooie and Conker’s Bad Fur Day have had their fifteen minutes of fame and then some, Blast Corps really only seems to come up in hardcore N64 fan circles.
This game is criminally underappreciated, as it is one of the most ambitious and outlandish games created by a studio known for its zaney releases. Blast Corps charges the player with the protection of a leaking nuclear reactor in transit. Rather than re-route the thing’s path, players must demolish everything in its path to make sure it arrives safely at its destination.
Adopting the role of a reverse civic engineer, players are given a bunch of tools with which to destroy the landscape, and the ensuing chaos can be every bit as fun as the destruction present in games like Grand Theft Auto, albeit a bit less gruesome.
It’s a true shame that this title never received the same level of acclaim as its brethren, and any Rare fan who missed out on this back in the day may still want to give it a look.
