From the likes of Catwoman and Charlies Angels to Atari's catastrophic E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, video game movie tie-ins have a history of being terrible. One of the few exceptions to this rule, however, is Peter Jackson's King Kong.

Made in collaboration with Peter Jackson to ensure the game stayed true to his vision, this game took players to the heart of the perilous Skull Island where they'd relive the events of the film from the perspective of both scriptwriter Jack Driscol and Kong. Presented with eye-widening visuals, this tie-in game captured the sense of scale and adventure of the Oscar-winning flick to marvelous effect.

While playing as Jack a scarcity of ammo encouraged players to think on their feet by using makeshift weapons and the environment to defeat or outwit the island's nightmarish inhabitants.

Comparatively, Kong's sections allowed players to experience the creature's immense strength by traversing the jungle and brutally dispatching even larger enemies.

More than just a faithful adaptation of an excellent film, this game immersed players deep within the action and was a lot of fun to play. There was even an alternative ending that could be unlocked by achieving a high enough score when replaying the game.
