3. Madden Football 2006
The Madden Franchise got on the capitalism radar with the inclusion of well, Franchise Mode. 2006 serves as a suitable example of this resource management tool. As the owner of an NFL franchise, the player not only gets to manage the team itself, but the stadium and organizational decisions (ticket prices, concessions and architectural designs). The happiness of the consumers are monitored so that the player can adjust to the reactions to high ticket prices and sodas that require a small loan. The owner also has the ability to negotiate for better locations in and out of the city, hell the country! Playing the franchise mode long enough will result in eventually seeing at least one NFL team make the move to Mexico (there were real life rumors about that prospect at that time). EA managed to shine a light on an aspect of the NFL and its business practices that the NFL might have liked to remain secret. In the end, it is a fairly robust representation of big business in the sports world, something that would remain a part of most sports games to follow, just not so detailed.
