4. Farewell To Snake - Metal Gear Solid 4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rxw242Njxjs&t=7m36s Insane and ridiculous as it was, Metal Gear Solid 4 gave Solid Snake the send-off he deserved, an emotional finale that satisfied fans and certainly didn't cop-out. Throughout the MGS games, we've seen Snake deal with absolute Hell, and it's clear by part four that he's near the end of his tether, a point made even clearer by him having to crawl through a giant freaking microwave and then face off against Liquid Ocelot in the most epic final boss fight in the history of video games. Snake puts a gun to his head, and it cuts to black as we hear a bang; Snake, it seems, is gone. Now, Snake isn't dead, and we find that out later, but the most emotionally wrenching moment of the ending is not the standoff against Big Boss, but in fact Meryl's wedding scene, in which Otacon delivers a few home truths while talking to Sunny. Otacon says "Snake...had a hard life. He needs to rest", and it just brought home the fact that one of video gaming history's most iconic and beloved heroes wasn't going to be fighting anymore; even though he has a few months to see out the rest of his life, this is the last we're going to see of him. It's a bittersweet, sad ending, and one that stays true to the tone of the series entire.
