When it comes to criticising The Lawnmower Man, it's hard to know where to start. Despite being a cyber-thriller revolving around virtual reality and psychic powers, this quasi-adaption of Stephen King's work is incredibly boring.

At the time of release, its only saving grace were some trippy visuals. But time has not been kind to The Lawnmower Man, since its surreal special effects are considered a joke by today's standards.

On the plus side, the tie-in game was pretty good. Not only that, the gameplay was astonishingly varied. When you boot The Lawnmower Man up, it looks like a simple run-and-gun title. But before you know it, you're performing pattern-based puzzles or blasting everything in a top-view driving level.

When you enter the Cyber World, the arena you're transported to can take the form of a first-person shooter, a third-person rail shooter, or a vertical side-scroller.

Now, because The Lawnmower Man doesn't stick with a specific genre, it can be disorienting for casual gamers. But at the same time, you have to commend the developers for going all out. Instead of just making The Lawnmower Man a bare-bones platformer, they crafted one of the most unique games of its time.
