Not only is The Punisher game regarded as vastly superior to the film it's based on, it's a damn-great Marvel title in its own right. You can tell a lot of love was put into this project, since the creators hired comic book legends, Garth Ennis and Jimmy Palmiotti, to pen the script.

Rather than just copying elements from the mediocre movie, The Punisher game is crammed with iconic Marvel characters, including Nick Fury, Black Widow, Kingpin, Iron Man, Daredevil, and Bullseye. Hardcore comic fans should also recognise iconic Punisher villains, such as Ma Gnucci and Bushwhacker.

Now, let's look at the most important aspect of any Punisher story: The violence. Although the game was initially criticised for excessive gore, this seems a bit unfair, since... what did you expect from a Punisher game?? It's like complaining there's too much jumping in Super Mario!

Now, this criticism would be justified if the violence was mindlessly brutal. However, The Punisher gets away with it, since the violence is used to advance parts of the plot. Instead of interrogating perps the old fashioned way, our "hero" can also shove them above a buzzsaw or beside a wood-chipper, hoping to scare answers out of them. Because certain puzzles and secrets require effective interrogation or a corpse, brutally dealing with NPCs isn't just advised, it's necessary.
