10 Great Characters WASTED In Terrible Video Games
6. Reaver - Fable III
Most agree that the original Fable was decent, but Fable II was fantastic. Many of us were looking forward to a similar leap in quality to Fable III.
We didn't get that.
What we did get was a game that basically doubled down on Fable II's weaknesses and outright rejected its strengths. In Fable II, it was easy to break the economy in our favor by exploiting the real-estate system; In Fable III, it was even easier. Fables II's dog felt like a true companion and friend; Fable III's dog felt more like a tool.
One of the bright spots from both games, however, was Reaver. In Fable II, you have to track down the heroes of strength, will and skill to help you in your quest. It's an unexpected twist, then, when the Heoro of Skill turns out to be an amoral, narcissistic "gentleman" pirate named Reaver. In Fable III, he becomes a profit-obsessed captain of industry.
But you just can't help but love the guy. He's never on the side of "evil" - just on the side of himself. And actor Stephen Fry injects him with all the pomp and ostentatiousness you'd expect from a man wearing the world's largest top hat.
