The roster for the original Soul Calibur could also have easily made the list, but its sequel's is a case of more being better. Although only four new characters were added to the roster in Soul Calibur 2, the fact that each of them were inserted into the game without ruining the franchise's legendary balance is an impressive feat. Soul Calibur's weapon-based playstyle means it can be challenging to keep coming up with characters that have something to contribute that hasn't been seen before, but with this game the franchise found the perfect amount of original characters that are all viable in their own ways while still being fun to play. It certainly doesn't hurt that the character designs themselves tend to inspire either nightmares or fantasies. It's also hard to not love the game for its system-exclusive characters (Link, Spawn, and Heihachi for GameCube, Xbox and PS2 respectively) which is a tactic way more games should borrow from.
