8. Call Of Duty: World At War

For me, Call Of Duty's final World War II outing marked the beginning of the end for the franchise, and more than that it was the last truly great game in the series. The story impressive, even though WWII had been milked so much, and Treyarch still kept it looking visually stunning: rain affected the vision, enemies were merciless toward you, and the realistic violence and gore was vicious. This was as close to WWII as you was ever going to get. Some say Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare is the greatest game ever by many, but I strongly contest this: World At War was the ultimate war game. Its graphics were unmatched, its story was real and the war was made visually brutal by Treyarch. All games since have in my opinion, been a massive step down from World At War and also from Modern Warfare. Both games were brilliant in terms of story and gameplay. With the possible exception of the over-arching Modern Warfare storyline, I feel never again will we see a Call Of Duty game matching World At War, which was pretty realistic, in terms of how brutal it was. The multiyplayer kept the gore and realisitic value too, and if you're looking for a good war game to quench your thirst, I recommend you fork out £10 for the single player in this game. It still holds up. And Zombies? Well that deserves a whole other page in terms of customer satisfaction, but not today.
