Snake Eater's fantastically stupid/utterly legendary title sequence is something that helped to solidify creator Hideo Kojima's love for all things Western, as well as putting across the series' ability to overindulge in the most self-aware way possible. Coming just after we were all reeling from a series of plot-points that would have greater ramifications for the overall series' canon going forward - and a man who could fire bullets from his hands - hero Snake had just been lobbed off a bridge into the watery depths below, and we were all feeling suitably gobsmacked. Then this happens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CbFAZ2ztlE It's a homage to all the James Bond themes and title sequences from across the years, and what a stylistically-ridiculous one at that. You actually play quite a hefty chunk of gameplay before this beautiful piece of madness kicks in, as Metal Gear has always been one with a taste for the theatrical, and although Snake Eater's title card drops just as you're attempting to process all the information surrounding who you're playing as, who you've been betrayed by, and what's going to happen because of it, it ends up sticking out even more because of it. Being our first taste of new Metal Gear since part two's dividing nature had put some off the franchise, so with all eyes on what Konami were going to put out, it was cheers all-round when what was revealed turned out to be one of the best instalments in the entire franchise.
