6. Omega Weapon - Final Fantasy V
Omega is one of the funniest optional bosses in the entire franchise. Right before you reach the final boss, you hit an area where Omega is just... kinda standing there. If you walk past it, you will never have to worry about fighting Omega. So if you take it on, you have only yourself to blame for what comes next.
What makes Omega so feared amongst the fanbase is its attacks, all of which hit hard and half of them inflict status ailments on top of it. The two attacks you need to watch out for the most, however, are Maelstrom and Encircle. The first reduces your entire party's HP to 1, while the other outright removes a member of your party from the battle. No number of Phoenix Downs in your inventory will prevent that.
Omega permanently seared itself into the franchise with this battle, ensuring that it would always come back in some shape or form to try and recapture the utter fear the original inspired in players. And while many have come close (the iteration in Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood is a particular highlight) there's no topping the original big black ball of death.
