5. Orphan Of Kos - Bloodborne

FromSoftware kept Bloodborne's most annoying enemy til last, tucking Orphan of Kos away on the DLC, The Old Hunters.

Thing is, this fight starts out fairly simple. The Orphan comes with a whopping great blood bubble-covered axe... sword... thing, and you'll set about dodging his easily telegraphed attacks, countering nicely.

Once around half of his health is gone though, he transforms.

Sprouting wings and thrashing around the battlefield, suddenly those already grating screams and repeated sound effects are matched by something that just.won't.get.out.your.face.

Even sticking close and dodging around his massive swings results in a close range explosion that'll catch you for at least half health - or you can step away and see a number of splashes and ground-swells kill you instead.

Pure agony... but I guess at this stage, this is what we expect from FromSoftware.
