10 Hidden Gaming Gems That You Totally Missed Out On

Featuring one of the worst pieces of box art in modern history, this fantastic sci-fi tale with quirky Japanese humour was quickly swept under the expectation-rug, being that any footage you saw looked just like a poor man's Gears of War, complete with said box art looking like a teenage boy's attempt at creating 'My First Action Hero'. There was just no hope was there? Not even your sock-loving granny at Xmas is going to pick this up over the likes of Gears or Call of Duty. However, a terrible initial presentation belied one of the best sci-fi narratives put to game. Penned by the same unappreciated talent as those behind the Yakuza series, this slightly quirky tale created a world where the field of robotics has become so advanced that even the robots themselves - made up to look indistinguishable from humans - have had memories and conscious implanted, thus not knowing of their own origins. Cut to many revelations along the way and The Thing-like 'are-they/aren't-they' musings on your own part, and it all provides a solid backdrop to some loveably esoteric characters, the final package being one of the most memorable games of the last generation despite its insistence on building a game around cover mechanics that have been done better almost everywhere else. Speaking of which, this is a title you'll be playing for the story and that alone, as although the shooting sections aren't terrible there's nothing to set this aside from the competition. Some of the droids you'll be fighting can be tagged with head shots to tinker with their circuitry, momentarily netting you an ally as they gun down their fellow tin-men. Aside from that however, it's the meaty weapons that pack a fairly solid punch that will see you through to the next cutscene.
