10 Hidden PS3 Gems You Should Track Down

5. The Unfinished Swan (2012)

Enslaved odyssey to the west

Roger Ebert once questioned whether video games can ever be considered art. Had The Unfinished Swan been around back then, even the legendary film critic would have struggled to put a compelling argument to the contrary forward.

Developer Giant Sparrow has always challenged gaming conventions, and in keeping with this, the indie studio's 2012 PS3 exclusive plays more like an interactive storybook than a traditional console title.

This enchanting tale follows an orphan who steps into one of his mother's incomplete paintings to search for a swan that has gone missing from the foreground. A world of stark white greets the player inside, but they're equipped with an endless supply of black paint which magically brings the universe to life.

This is one of the most original gameplay mechanics you'll ever encounter, but it's the soothing music, delightful art style and the game's ability to make you feel like a kid again that makes it such an unforgettable experience.

The Unfinished Swan has since been remastered for PS4 and Vita, so there's no excuse for allowing one of the PS3's most unique games to pass you by.
