10 Hidden PS3 Gems You Should Track Down

6. TimeShift (2007)

Enslaved odyssey to the west
Saber Interactive

Sci-fi-themed first-person shooters featuring guys in high-tech suits tend to get tarred with the Halo ripoff brush, and it's easy to be fooled into thinking TimeShift deserves to be splattered with the black stuff.

The game is the handiwork of Saber Interactive, the same development team behind Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, but this FPS came with an ace up its sleeve that set it apart from Master Chief: time-bending capabilities.

Players take control of a nameless hero in a time machine suit, which means you can slow, stop and rewind time at the push of a button. If you've pulled off a satisfying kill, you can hit rewind for an instant replay, and it's even possible to stop the clock and wipe out a room of baddies before they know you're there.

Just to stop you feeling overpowered and unchallenged, the game's villain was kitted out with an even more powerful time travel suit and has used it to jump back to 1939 and take over the world. Believe it or not, the odds were actually against you.

TimeShift's visuals were impressive back in the day, especially the rain effects. Although they don't really stand up under modern-day scrutiny, this is still an FPS with unique gameplay mechanics.
