8. Raccoon City - Resident Evil series
People love zombies in their videogames. They love whole cities infested with zombies in their videogames. Well, Raccoon City is the grand-daddy of all zombie-infested cities and has spanned more videogames that most locations; appearing in both the original and remakes of RE2 and RE3 – Umbrella’s puppet city has also appeared in The Umbrella and Darkside Chronicles, Outbreak File #1 and #2 and Operation: Raccoon City, not to mention the film Resident Evil: Apocalypse (but let’s not talk about that).
The fact is fans can’t get enough of this brilliant location but, whilst it is certainly fun to play around it in a videogame, the reality of Raccoon City is a living nightmare. Everyone you know and love? They’re likely infected and transforming into flesh-craving zombies right now! Think you can escape? Nope, the military have cut you off. Pretty adept at handling zombies? Well there’s also Lickers, Hunters, Drain Deimos, dogs and giant spiders to contend with.
Life gets even worse if you just so happen to be the protagonist of a Resident Evil game – Umbrella will send one of their terrifying Tyrants to specifically hunt down and kill you. Be it the oft-memed Mr. X from RE2 or the toothy mash-up of Terminator and anime-tentacle-porn that is the Nemesis.
