10 Horrifying Hellscapes That Video Game Heroes Call Home

9. Moscow - Metro Series

Bioshock Horror
Deep Silver

Perhaps the most likely of all the terrifying fates on this list; Moscow 2033 and its sequels take place in the not-too-distant future where humanity has ravaged the earth in a vicious nuclear war. The surface world is uninhabitable to human life; polluted with radiation and strange mutated creatures.

Humanity seeks shelter where it can and these games revolve around a large community hiding in the dark, crowded tunnels of the Moscow Metro. Unfortunately down here is no safer as humanity does what it does best; splits into groups and turns on itself.

Trapped in a dark, cramped world where bullets are used as currency, where communists and fascists fight daily and where the ghosts of the long dead past continually haunt our protagonists – the complete and total nihilism of the Metro is infectious and a reality that seems all too tangible.
