10 Horror Video Games That Brutally Punish You

3. Man Of Medan

What makes one of the Man of Medan's potential punishments even more painful, is in how the game let's you think for so long that things are all fine.

During the early part of the game, there's a pressure moment of whether Julia should take her time or go hell for leather when heading back to the surface during the "Dive" segment. With an explosion having just happened, it's understandable that some players might opt to get Julia out of the water as soon as possible. And if you do this, you'll be led to think that your decision was no big deal.

From there, you can play through the rest of the entire game, keep all core characters alive, see the closing credits roll and even get a farewell from the Curator. But still, there's one final shock left around the corner in Man of Medan.

For those who rushed to resurface in "Dive", that shock is one final post-credits scene that sees Julia collapse and die from decompression sickness, aka the bends - which is all a direct, if not delayed, result of what took place so much earlier in the game.
